The Art of Focus shows listeners how Dr. Amishi Jha helps them to stay focused and not struggle. As the top complaint of meditators and all of us, distraction is a top cause of stress. He has also studied how meditation affects people in high-stress jobs, such as firefighters and police.

Research

Amishi Jha is an assistant professor of psychology at University of Miami. Her research focuses on brain-based mechanisms that keep active working memory. Working memory is a cognitive process that allows us manipulate information and preserve its relevance. Jha uses single-unit recordings of nonhuman primates to study this process. These recordings have shown that information maintenance depends on the ability to sustain firing population neurons in working memory.
